Summary Profile
Ms Jessica Hughes is an ecologist and EIA practitioner with 21 years of experience in managing EIAs and coordination of ecological studies to international lender standards (eg International Finance Corporation (IFC).  She holds Masters Degrees in Zoology and Environmental Science. The majority of projects she has worked on include hydropower, dam and related infrastructure, mining and oil and gas projects in Africa.  River-related studies include a cumulative impact assessment for multiple hydropower schemes on a river in Angola; specialist ecological review for the Mulungushi/Mkushi hydropower project in Zambia and the Baynes hydropower project on the Kunene River bordering Angola/Namibia; the EIA for Maguga Dam in Swaziland, and several baseline surveys for Katse and Mohale dams developed under the Lesotho Highlands Water Project.  She has also coordinated a number of baseline biodiversity studies in Mozambique, Sierra Leone, and Cameroon for oil and gas and mining clients.  Through the wide range of biodiversity studies and EIAs for a variety of development projects, she has gained invaluable experience and insight on hydropower projects and biodiversity, and environmental flow related impacts and mitigation requirements, working in alignment with IFC Performance Standards.  She is currently assisting Southern Waters with preparation of Internal Good Practice Guidelines on EFlows for the IFC. She was also an invited participant in an IFC-led lessons learned workshop in the UK (Feb 2016).
